C.T.C.A Event A Success!

What an event! Special thanks to all of our guests and sponsors (Holton Farms, Hint Water, Baked By Melissa, We Love Colors, giggle, Cozy Cuts, and Beansoup). It was down to the last minute but we pulled it all together. By day, Chef Toni's Cooking Academy doubles as a pre-school and of course, a cooking academy for children. But on September 11, 2010, West Side Family Center had been completely transformed into farm-to-table heaven!

The event actually kicked off early as guests began arriving an hour before start time! What a sure-fire sign we were going to be packed, and we were. At capacity, all guests were asked to take pictures with our fun farm-photo backdrop at check-in. After check-in, children immediately noticed the barn and hay, and the fresh fruits and vegetables provided by Holton Farms stationed out back and there was no stopping them. Both parents and kids enjoyed Chef Toni's Pesto Spinach Ravioli, Kiwi Lemonade, Waldorf Salad, Salmon Mousse, and Spinach devil eggs. Two of the dishes were prepared by some of Chef Toni's top junior chefs! Adding a little dessert to the menu was Baked By Melissa's famous quarter size cupcakes in all flavors, yummy. I think those were gone in 10 minutes flat! HINT Water was also a huge hit at the event. This will mark the second time they have worked with The Tesla Group and they were just amazing. Everybody just loves that Hint Water!

Guest gushed about the fresh Kiwi Lemonade (made without any sugar) and Pesto Spinach Ravioli, but we weren't done just yet. It was time to kick off some farm-to-table fun with the kids. Alexandra Bruno and Michele Quach of The Tesla Group announced bobbing for apples and the kids were quick to start a long line of multiple rounds. Kids also enjoyed classic games such as a "lemon toss," a farmer's version of "Simon Says," and playing in the hay against our barn backdrop.

At the mid-way point, Chef Toni's welcoming ceremony included a graduation for all of her summer students. Graduates received a certificate along with a cute mini-chef utensil set and button. Chef Toni also awarded
scholarships to five well-deserving children from the A-B-C organization to attend cooking classes at the academy. A-B-C is a non-profit organization servicing underprivileged children. We have a video of the ceremony, which will be up soon.
