TTG Sparked Trends - Rooftop Movie Night

Warmer weather in the City brings with it the glorious return of the Rooftop. Last year New York and cities all over the world made their rooftops into clubs, restaurants, movie theaters and even a place to hold sunrise yoga classes! What's great about living in a city like New York is that you can easily join in on these events as close as your apartment. So many New York apartment buildings come with their very own, accessible rooftop so who needs to leave? Invite your friends over for a cosy movie night right on your rooftop where you can get that outdoor-movie experience and where nobody needs to worry about not getting to pick the movie - you can stay at your own rooftop theater for as long as you want and watch what you want! Follow our tips to host the best rooftop movie night for your friends that your city has seen yet..
Tip #1: You want to make sure you have the most important part of your night organised first (I'm Irish we use "s" instead of "z") - your guests comfort. We suggest using a futon or air mattress for easy access to your roof with any (coordinated) blankets and pillows that you have for a more polished look.  If you  plan to host rooftop gatherings and movie nights throughout the summer it may be worth it to invest in some new blankets and pillows. You can also create cool boho look with mismatching patterns. That's always a good idea as it adds a huge vibe of comfort and chill.

Scatter pillows against some beanbags if you have quite a few extra guests and make sure that you put down a large rug so that you can kick off your shoes and relax without worrying about dirtying your feet! If you don't have a large rug then there's plenty of small, affordable ones in stores such as IKEA and Target that you can buy a few of (different patterns of course!) and overlap to make one big colorful rug.

Tip #2: Add some DIY glitter jar candles at every available space on the rooftop to bring a little bit of magic to your movie night.
Tip #3: Drinks and cocktails are of course counted as 'guest comfort'! Make sure you set up a drinks station for your friends to help themselves to some cocktails, wine or soft drinks. It's easy if you have a desk table in your apartment - just cover with a quirky tablecloth (Etsy have an endless amount!), set up your bottles, ice and glasses and add a few finishing touches like a 'Drink Up' chalkboard or a framed drink menu.

Once your friends are comfortable and have their drink, they're going to want to be fed! Movie nights always call for popcorn but the best rooftop movie night in your city calls for the best popcorn. Check out this Popcorn Bar idea over on our Pinterest for tips on how to set yours up so it suits all tastes (and sweet teeth!) Your guests will love it, there's something for everyone - no plain ole' popcorn exists on your rooftop!
