Red Rooster Harlem's superstar Chef and Owner, Marcus Samuelsson grew up on the West Coast of Sweden fishing every morning with his Dad and Uncles for crayfish, mackerel and lobster. They smoked and preserved the fish, then often gathering in the kitchen with Marcus' Grandmother where she would teach them all her recipes and techniques. These experiences growing up taught Marcus to love and appreciate fresh and local food.

Fast forward to 2010 and Marcus opened Red Rooster in Harlem, a restaurant he dreamed about since he moved to Harlem. Red Rooster showcases American food with his Swedish and African roots infused (Marcus' fathers side of the family is Ethiopian). Since then, he has opened and cooked at a range of NYC restaurants and created the Harlem EatUp Festival.

At Taste of Tennis 2016, Marcus will be hosting the Celebrity Chef Challenge with none other than Tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal. Other competing Chefs include Kerry Heffernan, Michael Psilakis and Christian Pappanicholas.
